Planning Your Trip
Belgium is an interesting country. It covers a very small geographical area, yet its inhabitants speak French, Flemish and English. It is a place life's treats, producing some great beers, excellent chocolates and seeing much of the world's diamond trade.
Antwerp is famous for its diamond trade but also has a dynamic party vibe for those in the know. Bruges is a crowded medieval charmer not to be missed, while Brussels is stuffed with chocolate shops, Art Nouveau architecture and surrealist art. It's not difficult to cover the three cities in as many days, leaving you time left over to pop to France for a drink, or just soak up some countryside.
Apart from Belgian beer and Belgian chocolate, there are plenty of other culinary treats to enjoy in Belgium. It benefits from proximity to the Netherlands and France. The national dish may be mosselen/moules, which are mussels cooked in white wine, served in big steaming bowls, usually accompanied by mountains of fries. Fries are popular street food, and generally come smothered in mayonnaise. Sandwiches, grills and casseroles are also staples, especially for leisurely lunches, according to the season. The French influence is apparent in fabulous pastries, especially those incorporating chocolate. The country's cross roads status and colonial history are also evident in a wide variety of diverse cuisines, African, Asian and others can be found throughout towns and cities.
Cycling is a popular past-time in Belgium and there are plenty of wonderful bike paths and tracks throughout the country. Of course, a great deal on a Belgium rental vehicle from udrive.com.au will provide the ideal way to cover the short distances between Belgian cities and see some of the pleasant countryside. Other options are efficient and reliable trains, including the high speed Eurostar from Brussels to London (see www.eurostar.com)
Belgium's climate can be damp. It sees high annual rainfall, and can be particularly grim between November and March. In these wintry months, skies are grey, drizzle can be almost constant, and days are short and cold. Much better to go between May and September to enjoy warm sunshine. Belgium generally avoids the oppressive hotness which characterises European cities further to the south in July and August.

It is prohibited to use a rear facing child seat on a front seat with a frontal airbag unless it is deactivated.
Seat belts are compulsory for front / rear seat occupants to wear seat belts, if fitted.

Would it be enough for you to go to a country for its famed beer and chocolates? Maybe not, maybe so. One thing is for sure – everybody who goes on a car rental holiday in Belgium goes home with a heavy stash of Belgian chocolates. The interesting gourmet cuisine of epic proportions is enough to make someone not want to go home. The resplendent medieval architecture provides an exquisite backdrop for Belgian cuisine indulgence. Anyone who has the chance to rent a car in Belgium and explore the whole country could witness the reverberating romance prevailing in Belgium (cue: a lesson on chocolate’s aphrodisiac qualities), so intense is the romance, perhaps, that Belgians are the most satisfied in sex life than any other nations in the world.
Going around Belgium
The whole of Belgium is well-connected by an efficient rail system, covering distances from one city to another. Buses are cheap and reliable if moving around the city, although not too advisable if you want to reach the remote city areas. Renting a car hire in Belgium is an easy way of going around because most rental cars in Belgium are equipped with satellite navigation system. It is well recommended to acquaint with Belgian traffic signs as road signs out of the capital Brussels are in the local language.
From the Airport
The main airport of Belgium is the Brussels Airport although not really located in Belgium, but in Flanders rather. The rail connects Brussels Airport to three stations in Brussels and there are buses also to transport you to the city center. If you wish to hire a rental car in Belgium, you are in a better driving situation in Belgium than in other countries as almost every car hire has sat nav system.
Places to See
One unique Belgian attraction that you may not find in other countries is the Perfumes Guy Delforge, which gives visitors a tour of his perfumery. You will be treated to witness how his perfume is processed, complete with olfactory testing and presentation. You would have to drive your rental car to Namur to see this interesting site. Driving in the same city could lead you to Groesbeek de Croix Museum, one of the most extravagant mansions in built in the 18th century, opening its doors to the public in 1935. The city you should drive your car hire to for a great history and art day tour is Liege where Ansembourge Museum, Museum of Walloon Art, Modern Art Museum, Baugnez 44-Historical Center and Museum of Walloon Life. For authentic, delectable Belgian cuisine, you have a wealth of choices in Brussels, where you will most likely be billeted. As they say in Belgium, “we have French food in German quantities”. Now, who can go wrong with that?
France borders Belgium, which is a great place to drive your car hire to if bringing a lover with you as France is touted as the most romantic place on the globe.
