Dallas, the third largest city in Texas and the centre of the state's largest metropolitan area, the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, is in the north central portion of the state. This populous city is home to the Dallas Mavericks and you'll regularly be reminded of the city's mass enthusiasm for the team. A shopper’s paradise, Dallas has more shopping centres per capita than any other city in the US.
The simplest and most reliable way to get around Dallas is by car. Gas stations are plentiful and most sell both regular unleaded and diesel fuel. Highways and many major arterial roads can become heavily congested during rush hour, which occurs Monday through Friday, approximately 7:30am-9:00am and 4:30pm-6:00pm. Avoid driving at these times. Use an electronic mapping service from your smartphone or computer to check traffic conditions, as these change frequently. Accidents are common and tend to cause traffic jams on the major highways at random intervals, so take it easy and allow plenty of time for flights. Don’t try to cram too much into a day, or else save your rental car for getting out of town, to explore the countryside, visit a Texas ranch or go camping or hiking.
Dallas, the ninth most populated city of the United States was made famous by scheming JR Ewing and drunken Sue Ellen. After watching the popular soap opera, it would be easy to assume that Dallas is all about expensive lunch business meetings and devious, hunger greedy oil barons. Yet there is a lot more to the area and many things to do, so whether you are using it as stop on a road trip or planning to make it a holiday destination, we have listed some tips to get you started.
The Segway City Tour is a new concept that is taking off all around the world. Instead of riding around on tour buses, Segway is the method of transport used. (It’s a stand-up, two-wheel transport involving the passenger navigating, and mostly used in urban areas). The Segway allows the guide and group to make their way around the city easily and quicker than navigating city traffic streams. Sites to see on the Dallas Segway tour include the Convention centre, JFK memorial plaza, and Victoria Park. This tour will especially interest anyone with an interest in Dallas architecture styles over the years.
After the aquarium, continue the theme by heading to Dallas Zoo. Various animals exist within the zoo including elephants, camels, and giraffes. Educational programs are also available for children to ensure they learn about the animal’s behaviours, habitats, and natural characteristics. Opening times are from 9am to 5pm every day.
White Rock Lake is the place to head to if you are eager to get in touch with nature. It covers more than 1000 acres and includes a variety of activities including hiking and biking trails, picnic areas, fishing facilities, museum, and a cultural centre. The lake used to a settling ground for native Indians and in later years, also provided Dallas with a water supply so its historical significance to the region is great.
